This 70-year old former Gardner School is now home to the Gardner Commons elderly housing complex, which provides affordable housing for local seniors.

In addition to 26 one-bedroom apartments, this facility provides residents with amenities usually found in an assisted living environment. The complex also offers residents a community room, commercial kitchen, elevator, secured entry system, and an emergency call system. The renovation maintained many of the original elements of the school building, including the high ceilings and the large windows that provide views of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Fort Knox.

“It is a beautiful facility. I’m pleased to see that our senior citizens are going to be living in quality apartments like this, as they should be.” -Roger Raymond, Bucksport Town Manager, in regards to the Gardner Commons (Eastern Area Agency on Aging) project
