The Camden Public Library project provided Nickerson & O’Day with the challenge of constructing a 9,500 SF subterranean wing to the existing and historically significant original structure. Using a micro-pile drilling method an elevator shaft and stairwell were installed connecting the two structures. The original stone was removed stone by stone, numbered, and then replaced, as was the lawn that covered the rooftop of the underground wing. A cupola crowns the space adding natural light to the wing.
