The MDIBL Marshall Building is a LEED Certified biomedical research facility. The new Marshall wing adds 12,000 square feet of usable space to the Morris Laboratory NOD constructed in 2008 for a total of 32,000 SF. The Marshall Wing provides laboratory and office space for three full-time research groups, a lounge, a conference room, and high-tech marine animal holding rooms.
This project targeted LEED Certification and incorporated many features that reduce the building’s impact on the environment. The steel has a high content of recycled material, the urinals are waterless, the toilets are dual flush fixtures, and the energy consumption is forecasted at 42% less than a typical lab.
60% of the construction debris from this project was recycled or otherwise diverted from landfills.
*Certified LEED Gold
*The MDI Biological Laboratory (Marshall Building) project received the Certified LEED Gold Award for 2009
