After two years of planning and a city-wide vote to locate the new headquarters building downtown, Nickerson & O’Day won an open-bid process against six other contractors and began driving steel H-piles into the structurally incompetent soils beneath the building in the fall of 2005. With the critical path being the new three-story building, Nickerson & O’Day focused its efforts there by starting the project as winter closed in, the poor subsurface soil conditions and virtually no “lay-down”/storage area were all challenges that Nickerson & O’Day met and solved.

At the Owner’s request, the dispatch office was relocated into the building one month early and overall the project was completed on time and under budget giving Bangor its new, state-of-the-art facility. It incorporates a full-service evidence storage/lab facility, a five-lane indoor firing range, workout/locker room, storage bays for five police vehicles, dispatch office, administrative offices, detention/questioning facilities, detective offices, and even a police museum to celebrate Bangor’s colorful law enforcement history.
