The Emera Astronomy Center replaced the Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium, which opened in 1954. Many students from all over Maine visit the planetarium every year. The new Emera Astronomy Center planetarium has state-of-the-art features such as a 33 FT high dome with a Definiti projection system, high tech lighting control system, and the largest telescope in Maine. The planetarium can comfortably fit 50 visitors, making it a valuable asset for the University of Maine.
